What to confirm before your first studio visit

Once you have a shortlist, send the studio the specific details of what you want to make and when you hope to come. The directory is a research starting point; the operator is the source for a current booking.

Before you reserve a place

• Confirm your experience is sufficient for the session.
• Check the branch address and booking time.
• Ask whether the session includes instruction or independent practice only.
• Confirm the equipment you need is available.

Before you bring materials

Ask which clay and glaze products are accepted and whether outside materials are allowed. Tell the studio if you are bringing partly finished work or work made elsewhere. Check the studio’s own preparation and handling instructions.

Before you plan the total cost

Confirm the access charge, minimum session length, materials charges and firing fees. Ask whether storage is included and for how long: making, drying, glazing and collection may require more than one visit.
